STATE OF THE ARTS PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR 

COLUMBUS, OH (March 9, 2016) State of the Arts Productions’ Executive Director, Gwen Edwards, announced last evening that James Blackmon has been named their new Artistic Director. Mr. Blackmon will succeed SoArtsPro’s founder Quentin Edwards, who passed in July of 2014.    "I am delighted and enthused to welcome James to the SoArtsPro Family," said Edwards.  “I look forward to collaborating with him and am pleased that our board has selected an individual who will both embrace and continue the mission and artistic goals of our company. " The Board of  Directors are equally supportive and excited for Mr. Blackmon and they are confident he will successfully lead SoArtsPro into the future.

 

James Blackmon has years of experience as an actor, director, writer, and musician. Currently,  he music directs and is the frontman for, Love United, a Columbus-based community choir.  James also co-owns and works administration for Empire Cheer and Dance in Lewis Center, and teaches piano, voice, acting, and auditioning. In addition, James is the secretary for the Alabama Alumni Association, Central Ohio Chapter.

 

Speaking of his appointment, Blackmon said, "I am thrilled beyond belief to not only have the opportunity to immerse myself in theatre again, a passion I have been away from for way too long, but to also begin this new working relationship with Executive Director, Gwen M Edwards, Board President, L'Erin Edwards Price, and everyone else at State of the Arts. You've taken me in and made me feel very welcomed into your family.  I look forward to beginning our journey together."

James Blackmon’s tenure as Artistic Director for State of the Arts Productions will begin immediately.
